4183) and heterozygous C/G was more frequent in healthy controls (OR = 0.7051). There were no significant (P = 0.2650) associations between A/A (OR = 0.783), G/G (OR = 1.5914) and G/A (OR = 0.8289) genotypes in the SDF-1 gene polymorphism with SLE. We conclude that there is no significant association of RANTES-28 and SDF-1 gene polymorphisms and occurrence of SLE in Malaysia.”
“Tiltable magnetic anisotropy of self-assembled Fe arrays on nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide has been obtained via oblique

evaporation. The rims of the pores, which induce a stacking selleck chemical variation to the stacked atoms, obstructed on the top and shadowed on the inner-wall, aid the formation of isolated arrays with extended “”sterns.”" The sterns, formed perpendicularly on the unshadowed inner-wall inducing out-of-plane shape anisotropy, dominate the magnetic anisotropy via the coupling to QNZ mw the magnetization of the topmost single-domain array. High perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (1.38 x 10(7) ergs/cm(3)) is induced by the stern at a nominal thickness of 16 nm via 50 degrees-oblique deposition, and capable of tilting with a decrease in shape anisotropy as a result of the decreased oblique angle and increased nominal thickness. The 45 degrees-tilted magnetic anisotropy with independent

magnetization reversal is obtained at an oblique angle of about 27.6 degrees. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3486478]“
“Salinity affects normal growth and development learn more of plants depending on their capacity to overcome the induced stress. The present study was focused on the response

and regulation of the antioxidant defence system in Brassica oleracea roots under short and long salt treatments. The function and the implications of hydrogen peroxide as a stressor or as a signalling molecule were also studied. Two different zones were analysed-the elongation and differentiation zone and the fully differentiated root zone-in order to broaden the knowledge of the different effects of salt stress in root. In general, an accumulation of hydrogen peroxide was observed in both zones at the highest (80 mM NaCl) concentration. A higher accumulation of hydrogen peroxide was observed in the stele of salt-treated roots. At the subcellular level, mitochondria accumulated hydrogen peroxide in salt-treated roots. The results confirm a drastic decrease in the antioxidant enzymes catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and peroxidases under short salt treatments. However, catalase and peroxidase activities were recovered under long salt stress treatments. The two antioxidant molecules analysed, ascorbate and glutathione, showed a different trend during salt treatments. Ascorbate was progressively accumulated and its redox state maintained, but glutathione was highly accumulated at 24 h of salt treatment, but then its concentration and redox state progressively decreased.
